Unlock and Jailbreak your iPhone 2G for Windows

These are instructions on how to unlock and jailbreak your iPhone 2G on the 3.0 iPhone firmware using RedSn0w for Windows. Before beginning make sure you have updated to iTunes 8.2.

Notes (the 3.0.1 unlock):
You can use redsn0w v0.8 to jailbreak the 3.0.1 update. Just letiTunes update or restore you to official 3.0.1 then run redsn0w. Theonly “trick” is that when redsn0w asks you to identify the IPSW used,point it at the 3.0 IPSW instead of the 3.0.1 one. After the jailbreak,reinstall ultrasn0w 0.9 if you need the unlock. You can download redsn0w 0.8 from here (http://thebigboss.org/hostedfiles/redsn0w-win_0.8.zip) if you have a old version.
Step One
Create a folder called Pwnage on your desktop.
Download the following files and place them in the Pwnage folder you just created:
- RedSn0w (http://begolli.com/downloads/win/redsn0w-win_0.7.2.zip)
mirror1 (http://www.highphone.org/redsn0w-win_0.7.2.zip)
mirror2(http://theiphoneproject.org/windows/redsn0w-win_0.7.2.zip)

- BL 3.9 (http://sites.google.com/site/maciphone2gunlock/Home/BL-39.bin)
- BL 4.6 (http://sites.google.com/site/maciphone2gunlock/Home/bl46.bin)
- 3.0.0 (2G): iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
Extract the RedSn0w zip file to the Pwnage folder.
Step Two
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.
Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.
Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to continue.
Step Three
Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware you may launch redsnw0w.exe from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.
Step Four
Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button
Step Five
Select the firmware ipsw we placed in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click Open
Step Six
Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.
Step Seven
Make sure Cydia and Unlock is selected and click the Next button.
Step Eight
We will know need to set the location of our bootloader files.
Click Browse and select the 3.9 bootloader file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.
Click Browse and select the 4.6 bootloader file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.
Click the Next button to continue.
Step Nine
Please plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button
Step Ten
RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.
Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.
Step Eleven
Your iPhone will now reboot
Step Twelve
RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk.
Step Thirteen
Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button.
When your iPhone finishes reboot (5 minutes or so). It will run BootNeuter then be unlocked and jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

Network unlock for an iPhone 2G doesn't use a code or unlocking sequence. The device is remotely unlocked on Apple servers.
There are two types of instructions for iPhone 2G.
First option
1. Insert a simcard from a different network than the one working in your device.
* the unaccepted simcard cannot ask for a pin code at the start. Please use a simcard that doesn't ask for a pin, or turn the request for a pin code off.
2. Start the device and turn on Wi-Fi
3. Small update should be downloaded.
iPhone 2G is ready to work in any network.
Second option (if the Wi-Fi option doesn't work)
1. Connect iPhone 2G to the PC by cable with an unaccepted simcard insterted (simcard from a different network than the one where you bought the device)
2. Start iTunes application on your PC
3. Small update will be downloaded.
iPhone 2G is now network free.

The easiest way to check if iPhone 2G is permanently unlocked is by inserting a different simcard (from different networks).
If iPhone 2G comes from AT&T network and you insert Sprint carrier sim card and a message 'iPhone has a simcard from a different network' or 'incorrect simcard inserted' appears on LCD it means that the device is network blocked.
However if the device has a signal and you can make calls or send text messages iPhone 2G is unlocked.
